Awards
Sport Cultura Barcelona annually awards the best initiatives in culture and sports fields. Entities and individuals that have highlighted during the previous year and that deserve the award are valued through their career and dedication to the cultural or sports world.
There are two phases to select the winners; the first one formed by a jury consisting of renowned journalists and members of the entity, in which are pre-selected three relevant candidates in each discipline. In the second phase all members of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Assembly are invited, and through a final vote the winners are chosen.


















2023
Delivery of the 2022 Award Sport Cultura Barcelona

On May 23, we celebrated the XVII edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, which took place at the RBA headquarters and brought together different personalities from the cultural, sports and institutional world of the city, as well as Barcelona's civil society figures.
The winners were the sailor Grant Dalton, in the 'Sports' category; the filmmaker Carla Simón, in the 'Culture' category, who received the award on her behalf Judit Colell, president of the Catalan Film Academy, and the director and composer Antoni Ros-Marbà, in the 'Trajectory' category, as well as the former soccer player, former coach and activist against ALS disease, Juan Carlos Unzué.
Grant Dalton received the award from Jordi Puig, president of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, and indicated that we remember Barcelona for its Olympic spirit from the 1992 Olympic Games and that they thought that it was important to recover these sensations in sporting terms.
As for her, after presenting the award to Judit Colell Neus Aranda, president of the National Theater of Catalonia, Carla Simón expressed through a video that "I am very excited and I am very grateful for this award because it values a way of culture like cinema. She also pointed out that "it is a great honor to become part of this group of people previously awarded in the Culture category."
Antoni Ros-Marbà, who received the award from Joaquim Uriach, president of the Palau de la Música, announced that in two years he will premiere an opera about Walter Benjamin at the Liceu and has indicated that "it was a great surprise and I am very happy and I accept the award with great enthusiasm”.
Juan Carlos Unzué received a long applause when he went up to collect the Special Mention that the Jury awarded him and Albert Agustí gave him, a recognition that until now had only been obtained by the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital, in the 2017 edition, and Josep Lluís Vilaseca, member of the COE and Secretary General of Esports of the Generalitat de Catalunya, in 2019. For Unzué, this recognition allows visibility to the ALS and claimed that "every time you remember me you remember everyone my sick companions, for that I'm very grateful." He also expressed that he has the feeling that "we are not prioritizing people" and encouraged everyone to support him in the task of disclosing the disease to fight against it and provide dignity to the sick.






2022
Delivery of the 2021 Award Sport Cultura Barcelona

On June 20, the Sport Cultura Barcelona 2021 Awards took place. The winners were: Alexia Putellas in the Sports category; Antonio López in the Culture category, and Josep Carreras for Best Career. An endearing act to reward three great professionals from the world of culture and sport.
Alejandro Blanco, president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, presented the award in the Sports category to the Barça soccer player Alexia Putellas, who was collected by Xavier Puig, the Barcelona team's head of women's soccer.
Josep Fèlix Bentz, president of the Reial Cercle Artístic, presented the award in the Culture category to the painter and sculptor Antonio López, a great master of hyperrealism.
Albert Agustí, president of Sport Cultura Barcelona, presented the award for Best Career to tenor Josep Carreras for his prolific career in the world of lithics, as well as for leading his homonymous foundation in an unstoppable fight to make leukemia one day a 100% curable disease.





2020
Delivery of the 2019 Award Sport Cultura Barcelona

As usual, the election of the winners of the XV edition of the 2019 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards consisted of two phases. A first jury selected three finalist candidates for each category and the second phase the members met and chose the winners.
Culture category: Teatro Soho de Antonio

Special mention: Josep Lluís Vilaseca
Due to health circumstances, the award is delivered personally to each winner.
Actor Antonio Banderas, awarded with the Sport Cultura Barcelona 2019 award, in the Culture category, received the award at the Teatro del Soho, in Malaga. The Prize was given in person by: Albert Agustí, Chairman; Rocío de Aguilera, General Secretary, and Ramón Agenjo, member of the Assembly of the Entity and Patron Director of Damm.
Rally driver Carlos Sainz received the Sport Cultura Barcelona 2019 award in the category of Best Career by the hands of the President of Sport Cultura Barcelona, Albert Agustí. The Vice President of Sport Cultura Barcelona and President of RACC, Josep Mateu, and the General Secretary of Sport Cultura Barcelona, Rocío de Aguilera, also attended the award ceremony. After the award ceremony, which took place at the Carlos Sainz Sr. Indoor Karting, Albert Agustí, Josep Mateu and Rocío de Aguilera had the opportunity to greet Carlos Sainz Jr., Formula 1 driver, who currently belongs to the Ferrari team.

Delivery of the 2018 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The XIV edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, in their three categories: Sports, Culture and Best Career, was held during a lunch, at the “Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm”.
The winners were:
Culture Category: Rosalía
Sport Category: Marc Márquez
Best Career: Jordi Alumà
The event was conducted by journaliste Aleix Perisé, who introduced Rocío de Aguilera, general secretary of the Entity, who welcomed and gave way to the projection of the entrance video.
Albert Agustí, chairman of Sport Cultura Barcelona thanked all those present for their assistance, personalities from the cultural, sports and institutional world of the city of Barcelona.
The painter Jordi Alumà, 95 years old and still active, received the award for the Best Career. Alumà grateful for this award, he offered a painting of his own for the Association.
The singer Rosalia, received the award in the category of culture, which the dancer Ángel Corella picked up in her name.
Finally, the five-time MotoGP champion Marc Márquez, personally collected the prize in the sport category.
The event was attended by the honorary president of Sport Cultura Barcelona, Manuel Carreras Fisas, as well as several personalities from the cultural, sports and institutional world of Barcelona city, such as Gerard Figueras, General Secretary of the Sport of Catalonia Generalitat; Maite Fandos, Deputy Delegate for Sports of the Barcelona Diputació; Marta Carranza, Sports Commissioner of Barcelona Town Hall; or Ramón Agenjo, director of DAMM Foundation.

Albert Agustí, chairman of the entity opened the ceremony by thanking everyone for their assistance and he introduced the historical video that collects highlights from twelve previous editions of these awards.
The sculptor Jaume Plensa, in the category “Culture”, collected the award and said “whenever there is recognition of the culture by civil sociaty is a reason for satisfaction”; the tennis player Garbiñe Muguruza, in the category “Sport”, was represented by Àlex Corretja and football player Andrés Iniesta, in the category “Best Career”, represented by Guillermo Amor, received the 2017 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards.
In addition, the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, received a Special Mention and Manel del Castillo, managing director, thanked this award.
The event was attended by the honorary president of Sport Cultura Barcelona, Manuel Carreras Fisas, as well as several personalities of the cultural, sports and institutional world of Barcelona city as Gerard Figueras, General Secretary of the Sport of Catalonia Generalitat; Maite Fandos, Sports Deputy of Barcelona Diputació; Marta Carranza, Sports Commissioner of Barcelona Town Hall; o Ramón Agenjo, director of DAMM Foundation.

The XII edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, in their three categories: Sports, Culture and Best Career, was held at the RBA Auditorium during a dinner.
The winners were:
Culture Category: Jordi Hurtado
Sport Category: Ruth Beitia
Best Career: Joaquim Maria Puyal
Albert Agustí, chairman of the entity opened the ceremony by thanking everyone for their assistance and he introduced the historical video that collects highlights from eleven previous editions of these awards.
In the Sports category the Award went to Ruth Beitia, Olympic high jump champion at the Río 2016 games. On her behalf, received the award, Carmen Valero, twice champion of the cross country world.
Jordi Hurtado, the TV presenter and voice actor picked up the award in the culture category, he said “I am a communicator and my work tool, is culture, besides the sport that is always present at the Saber y Ganar program” and he commented that next year the 5.000 program will be broadcast.
Finally, the award for Best Trajectory went to the journalist, presenter and sports broadcaster, Joaquim Maria Puyal. In his name, Judith Esteban and Carles Domènech collected and thanked the award, both are members of the Joaquim M. Puyal team.

Delivery of the 2015 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The XI edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, in their three categories: Culture, Sport and Best Career, was held at the Antigua Fàbrica de Cervezas Damm.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Joan Roca
- Sport Category: Laia Sanz
- Best Career: Dr. Valentín Fuster
Albert Agustí, chairman of the Association, opened the ceremony thanking the presence of the winners, authorities and personalities from the world of culture, sports and business. He then introduced the historical video summarizing the previous ten editions.
The first award was granted to sport category, which was received by the pilot Laia Sanz, who has seventeen world titles and has participated six times at the Dakar Rally.
Joan Roca, from ''El Celler de Can Roca'' chef, personally collected the award in the category of culture, and he extended such recognition to his brothers and he recalled that thirty years ago they opened up their restaurant ''El Celler de Can Roca''.
Finally, the best career award went to the cardiologist Valentín Fuster, currently CEO at CNIC in Madrid, and Chief of the Division of Cardiology at Mount Sinai in Nueva York. Professor Fuster thanked and commented it was an honor that, Barcelona, the city where he was born, recognized his career after more than forty years living in the United States.

Delivery of the 2014 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The X edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, in their three categories: Sports, Culture and Best Career, was held at the RBA Auditorium during a dinner.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Joan Manuel Serrat
- Sport Category: Spanish Waterpolo women’s Team
- Best Career: Carles Puyol
Manuel Carreras Fisas, president of the Association opened the ceremony thanking all attendees; personalities belonging to the economics, culture and sports world and also the winners for its presence and he highlighted the work carried out during the past eleven years of existence. Then he introduced the historical video which includes all 10 editions.
The first award presented was Best Career given to Carles Puyol, who was for 15 seasons the Team Captain of FC Barcelona. Carles Reixach collected the Price on his behalf.
Joan Manuel Serrat, received the Culture award, songwriter, poet, composer and performer internationally recognized, that he greatly has contributed to the world’s music, assisted in person to pick up the award.
And eventually the sports category award was for the Spanish Waterpolo women’s Team, nicknamed “golden warriors” they have achieved to be one of the major world powers in that discipline. All team players together with their coach Miki Oca attended the event to collect the award.

Delivery of the 2013 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The IX edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, took place in Real Club de Tenis Barcelona, during a dinner attended by large number of personalities belonging to the economics, culture and sports world.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Sara Baras
- Sport Category: Rafa Nadal
- Best Career: Tricicle
This year coincided with the X Anniversary of Sport Cultura Barcelona, Manuel Carreras Fisas, his President highlighted the 10 years of experience, reaffirming that the association continued to maintain the values and the established mission promoting two essential elements for all citizens sport and culture. Then the historical video was screened that collects the last VIII editions.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, the President of Sports Council (CSD), Miguel Cardenal, the General Secretary of Sport of Catalania Generalitat, Ivan Tibau and the Deputy Mayor of the area Quality of Life, Equality and Sport of Barcelona City Council, Maite Fandos and many personalities from the world of sport and culture and Catalan society.

Delivery of the 2012 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The VIII edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, took place the fourth consecutive year in the Old Damm Brewery, during a lunch attended by many personalities belonging to the economics, culture and sports world.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza
- Sport Category: Kilian Jornet
- Best Career: Vicente del Bosque
Manuel Carreras Fisas, president of the association, opened the ceremony thanking the assistance to all presents, authorities and representatives of different institutions and guests.
Then was projected the historical compilation video of the lasts VII editions. Joaquín Molins Gil introduced the winner of sport category, the mountain runner and skier Kilian Jornet, unique athlete, without oponents who scale mountains at breakneck speed.
Andoni Zubizarreta, FC Barcelona football área, announced the award in the new category best trajectory, the coach Vicente del Bosque, in recognition of all the success achieved with the Spanish Football Selection and above all are distinguished its extraordinary values as a person.
Finally the award in culture category, granted to Baroness Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza for her great work of patronage and her collection of art work that cross borders, highlight as well the XX anniversary of Thyssen Foundation. Excm. Sr. Xavier Trias, Mayor of Barcelona handed in the award to Baroness.
The event concluded with a speach done by Minister of Culture, Molt Hble. Sr. Ferran Mascarell and final closure was given by Mayor of Barcelona.

Delivery of the 2011 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The VII Edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards, took place for the third consecutive year in the Old Damm Brewery. During a lunch attended by many personalities belonging to the economics, culture and sports world.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Montserrat Caballé
- Sport Category: Anna Corbella, sailor
Manuel Carreras Fisas, presented the winner in the sport field, the sailor Anna Corbella, first spanish woman that has done the transoceanic race alone (Transat 6,50) and has participated in the Barcelona World Race, a non stop worldwide sailing race in two, together with the british Dee Caffari, they ended in the 6th place.
Enrique Corominas, chairman of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, dedicated a few words praising her career and professionalism.
Then was realesed the awarded in the category of culture, the internationally admired soprano, Montserrat Caballé, in recognition to an entire professional career, which this year has celebrated the 50th anniversary, since the first time went on stage at the Great Lyceum Theatre “Gran Teatre del Liceu”, she personally collected the award from the chairman of Círculo del Liceo, Ignacio García-Nieto, who previously praised her extraordinary personality and brilliant talent.
The closing of the 2011 Awards delivery, ended with a speech by the General Secretary of Sport of Catalonia Generalitat, Ivan Tibau and the Deputy Mayor of Quality of Life, Equality and Sport of Barcelona City Council, Maite Fandos.

Delivery of the 2010 Premis Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The VI Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards delivery, for the second consecutive year were held in the engine room of the old Damm Brewery.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Fundación Ángel Corella
- Sport Category: Xavi Hernández (F.C. Barcelona player)
Manuel Carreras Fisas opened the event introducing the Culture Award, given to la Fundación Ángel Corella, in recognition of his initiative to promote the art of classical dance in Spain, Ángel Corella in person, recognized internationally dancer received the award from Ms. Carmen Mateu de Suqué.
Subsequently was released the winner of Sports, FCBarcelona footballer, Xavi Hernández, player that has become the one with more official matches played at the FC Barcelona. Luis Aragonés introduced the winner and Joaquín Hernández, father of the footballer collected the award on behalf of his son, together with Sandro Rosell, Chairman of F.C. Barcelona.
This VI edition ended with a speech by Ivan Tibau, General Secretary of Sport of Generalitat and Maite Fandos, Deputy Mayor of Quality of Life, Equality and Sport of Barcelona City Council.

Delivery of the 2009 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The fifth edition of Sport Cultura Barcelona 2009 awards delivery took place at the Old Damm brewery.
The winners were:
- Culture Category: Festival Castell de Peralada
- Sport Category: Edurne Pasaban
Manuel Carreras opened the ceremony by thanking the attendance of the winners and guests also the present institutions and to the Mayor of Barcelona, who presided the event. Then he addressed a few words of tribute to whom was the Honor President of Sport Cultura Barcelona, during 5 years, Juan Antonio Samaranch, accompanied by a video with images of him at the events he actively participated.
The Sport Cultura Barcelona of Culture award was presented, given to Festival Castell de Peralada and Joaquín Calvo explained the reasons; a Festival which has 24 editions and worldwide musical recognition. A video with images offered by Castell de Peralada was ran.
The Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu delivered the award, a figure of the sculptress Rosa Serra to Carmen Mateu de Suqué.
Then was announce the Sport Cultura Barcelona award to Sport and its winner, Edurne Pasaban, the alpinist. Dr. Josep A. Pujante presented the award-winner and highlighted her personality and achievements of being the first woman to achieve the submits of 14 eight thousands. A video with images of her expeditions, given by Al Filo de lo Imposible and Ferran Latorre (from her team) was shown.
Edurne Pasaban personally collected the award, received from the Mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu.
Once the ceremony was concluded there was lunch with all the guests and the event arrived to its end with a brief speech of Jordi Hereu, Mayor of Barcelona.





2009
Delivery of the 2008 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The 4th edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards was held at the “Real Club de Tenis Barcelona”.
The winners were:
- Sport category: Spanish Copa Davis Team
- Culture category: Fundació Vila Casas
The sport category award was given to the “Spanish Copa Davis Team”, for his well-deserved triumph in Argentina (1-3) and his excellent team work, formed by Fernando Verdasco, Feliciano López, David Ferrer and Marcel Granollers, with his master Emilio Sánchez-Vicario, Spain won “the Ensaladera de Plata” for the 3rd time in history, therefore the Copa Davis has been achieved 3 times in: 2000, 2004 and 2008.
The award, consisted as in recent editions of a figure from the prestigious sculptress Rosa Serra. Albert Agustí, President of the Real Club de Tenis gave it to the current President of the Spanish Tennis Federation, José Luis Escañuela and to Emilio Sánchez-Vicario “the captain and representative of the team”.
In the category, corresponding to the field of culture, the award went to “Fundació Vila Casas”, a private nonprofit foundation, as the best cultural initiative for their effort and dedication in promoting catalan contemporary art. Founded in 1986 by the pharmacist and entrepreneur Antoni Vila Casas, he personally collected the award from Borja García-Nieto, President of the Círculo Ecuestre.
This 4th edition has been special because it paid tribute In Memoriam to Enric Puig Planas, Vice President of the Association, he was the main promoter of the sailing “La Copa del Rey de Vela” during its presidency in the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. Mr. Martínez-Rovira, partner and close friend, addressed some emotional words and gave the award to the Puig Family, picked up by his widow and children. Sara Puig Alsina pronounced some gratitude words on behalf of his family for such a tribute to his father.




2008
Delivery of the 2007 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The 3rd edition of Sport Cultura Barcelona awards took place at the “Real Club de Polo de Barcelona”.
The winners were:
- Sport category: Spanish Synchronized Swimming Team
- Culture category: Real Patronato Museo del Prado
“Spanish Synchronized Swimming Team” and the “Real Patronato Museo del Prado” have been awarded by Sport Cultura Barcelona at its 3rd edition. The sport award was collected by Gemma Mengual, who recently won 4 gold medals at the European championship in Synchronized swimming, Lluís Bestit i Carcasona, Vice-president of the “Spanish Real Swimming Federation” and President of the “Catalan Swimming Federation”, and Anna Tarrés, “Spanish team’s Technical Manager”. The Culture Award won by the “Real Patronato of the Museum de El Prado”, its Chairman Plácido Arango, attended the ceremony and personally collected the prize.
The event was held during lunch and was chaired by Juan Antonio Samaranch, Honorary President of Sport Cultura Barcelona, together with its President Manuel Carreras, among other members of the Assembly that were also present.
With these recognitions Sport Cultura Barcelona awards the best cultural initiatives and sportive of 2007 year.

Delivery of the 2006 Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards

The 2nd edition of the Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards took place at the “Real Club de Tenis Barcelona”.
The winners were:
- Sport category: Spanish Basketball Federation
- Culture category: Gran Teatre del Liceu
The award ceremony for the “2nd Sport Cultura Barcelona Awards 2006” was held on 22 March at the headquarters of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona, the most outstanding initiatives in the fields of sport and culture were recognized.
In the second edition of this award ceremony, Sport Cultura Barcelona Association awarded the “Gran Teatre del Liceu” as the best Cultural Initiative. Rosa Cullell, General Manager of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, received from Juan Mª Tintoré, chairman of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona the award, in recognition for the efforts in rebuilding and improvements of the landmark theatre that has kept along these years his functional of a cultural and artistic center that constitutes one of the symbols of our city.
“Spanish Basketball Federation” was awarded with the Sport Cultura Barcelona Best Sport Initiative for their excellent sportive works that lead The National Team of Spanish Basketball to achieve the victory of the FIBA World Championship 2006 in Japan. Juan Antonio Samaranch Salisachs, member of the International Olympic Committee, delivered the award to Mr. José Luís Sáez, President of “Spanish Basketball Federation” and Mr. José Vicente Hernández “Pepu”, his National Coach of the Basketball Team.
